2021 Nominated Charity of the Year - Ayrshire Cancer Support

Each year, the members of Ayrshire Business Women choose a Nominated Charity from the local area to receive the proceeds from donations and local fundraising initiatives.

The Nominated Charity for 2021 is Ayrshire Cancer Support, which has been operating in this area since 1982. ACS provides emotional support and practical help to all of those affected by cancer – including the patient themselves, their family members, and carers.

Nicola George, Corporate and Trust Fundraiser, from ACS had these words to share with us:

“Ayrshire Cancer Support are thrilled to be Ayrshire Business Women’s Charity Partner for 2021. Our charity relies on partnerships like this to fund our life saving and life extending work in Ayrshire. I am looking forward to engaging and working closely with all the members over the coming year to develop an exciting partnership for the betterment of the Ayrshire community.”

During 2020, Ayrshire Cancer Support has adapted the services they offer due to the interruptions to vital services caused by the Coronavirus pandemic.  Together with the invaluable support of the NHS , they now conduct appointments via the telephone or video link, and offer a wellbeing check-in service. Unfortunately they have suspended the complementary therapies previously provided at their Centre and in hospital wards, which will resume at some stage in the future.

Ayrshire Cancer Support have also introduced a Coronavirus bereavement and trauma support service, which provides free, confidential, professional counselling via telephone or video link using the NHS Attend Anywhere technology. This support is available to relatives, care-workers and NHS professionals who have been affected by the loss of someone due to Coronavirus.

Kirste Johnston, Sector Head Scottish Government, for Vodafone UK has confirmed that Vodafone will provide match-funding for the total donations raised this year:

“Vodafone will be delighted to submit a fund-matching application and to help with fundraising activities in support of ABW’s chosen charity throughout the year ahead. Cancer sadly touches many of our lives, and no more a worthy cause than Ayrshire Cancer Support. We are proud that this shall be the fourth year in a row, that ABW have our Vodafone fund-match application support.”
