Ayrshire Business Women Supports the Kris Boyd Foundation

Every year, the members of Ayrshire Business Women choose a Nominated Charity from their local area to receive the proceeds from donations and local fundraising initiatives.

In 2020, the Nominated Charity was the Kris Boyd Foundation, which was established by the Pro Footballer, Kris Boyd in 2018. After his brother Scott took his own life in 2016, Kris decided that it was time to raise awareness about mental health issues. His charity is dedicated to helping people – children, teenagers and adults – to speak up about the problems that they face.

The ABW made a donation of £1100, which was generously matched-funded by the ABW Sponsor, Vodafone - making a total donation to the Kris Boyd Foundation of £2,150 in the year 2020.

"My sincere thanks to all involved at ABW for the generous donation to The Kris Boyd Charity. We wouldn't be able to function and provide services without the help of fundraising efforts and the generosity of organisations such as yourselves. This will help us to keep trying to move forward in these challenging times for all. The goodwill and effort from the Ayrshire public has been first class and everyone at the Charity is appreciative. Once again, to Mary [Cahill, ABW President] and everyone at ABW, thank you." – Kris Boyd, Charity Founder.

Recent work carried out by the Kris Boyd Foundation includes a series of ‘Calm Your Mind’ wellness workshops, educational talks throughout schools and colleges in Ayrshire and Glasgow, and contributions to mental health programmes. The charity has also contributed to the work of The Little Art School in Ayrshire, The Samaritans, School Breakfast Clubs - as well as clothing and food banks. The donation from ABW and Vodafone will help to continue this work and support the development of new Kris Boyd Foundation initiatives for the future.

“Vodafone are delighted to have supported the ABW chosen Charity of the year, The Kris Boyd Charity. Both organisations play a key role in our communities and we are honoured to have played a part helping to raise funds; and in putting our employee fund match program to good use. Ayrshire Business Women are supporting women to achieve their goals - in both careers and business; whilst organisations such The Kris Boyd Charity do critical work assisting Mental Health in our communities. Our purpose at Vodafone is to Connect for Good and Inclusion for All, and we are confident the money raised by ABW and match-funding from Vodafone will be very much needed to support this great cause.” – Kirste Johnston, Sector Head Scottish Government, for Vodafone UK.
