Clare Hussain is the Founder and Chair of SHINE Ayrshire, a community network established to connect, support and create opportunities for women and girls across Ayrshire.
Her commitment to supporting women spans more than a decade. Clare previously spent six years as Chair of Police Scotland’s Scottish Women’s Development Forum, growing the network from around 600 to more than 4,000 members and helping drive improvements in the retention, progression and experiences of women (and men) across policing. The Forum’s work received national recognition when it won the Championing Gender Equality Award at the Scottish Public Service Awards at Holyrood.
Alongside her community work, Clare is a senior Civil Service leader with extensive experience across policing, immigration and public service leadership and is currently Director of Corporate Services for an ALB of the Home Office.
Clare will share the story behind SHINE Ayrshire and, importantly, explore the value these connections create for everyone involved.
This Spotlight session will explore how building relationships beyond our usual professional circles can create unexpected opportunities. For businesswomen, this might mean reaching new audiences, meeting potential clients, finding collaborators, raising the profile of their business, sharing expertise or developing relationships with organisations and individuals they would not ordinarily encounter.
Clare will also explore how businesses can create social impact without it always being about financial sponsorship. An introduction, an hour of professional expertise, mentoring, work experience, a venue, a service or simply opening up your network can make a difference to someone else while creating valuable connections for your own organisation.
Clare hopes the Spotlight will bring the SHINE and Ayrshire Business Women networks closer together and start conversations which continue long after the session ends.
